Psychoanalytic Institute of New England, East (PINE) is an analytic Institute fully accredited by the American Psychoanalytic Association. The institute was formed in 1974.  Faculty and candidates seek to understand the historical evolution of psychoanalysis and its current perspectives as a theory and treatment. The basic philosophy of our Institute is most consistently reflected in our approach to learning and teaching.  Our seminars encourage candidates and teachers to explore critically in a small, intimate, collegial atmosphere the basic observations, methods, and theories of psychoanalysis.  Our curriculum is flexible and attempts to speak to the needs of the individual candidates and teachers.  We offer both core seminars and those that arise out of the interests of the participants.  Seminars are augmented by tutorials which depend on the mutual interests and goals of the candidates and instructors.  Our program welcomes candidates of different backgrounds, including non-medical and medical, and has often been enriched by the participation of guest students who have come to Boston from different countries and have chosen to study at PINE.  We remain a small organization with a responsive administration, and despite the worldly pressures, we keep a singular commitment to share the learning and teaching of psychoanalysis in an intimate and intense environment of lively inquiry.
